Sephardi-Mizrahi Journeys in Middle Eastern Jewish Music and Culture

The University of Pennsylvania hosts guest speaker and performer Dr. Samuel Torjman Thomas, professor of Ethnomusicology and Sephardic Studies at City University of New York, for a musical lecture and discussion on the Jewish experience in North Africa and the Middle East. Dr. Torjman Thomas travels a super highway of musical traditions, highlighting instances of Muslim-Jewish intercultural exchange, musical dialects, and textual traditions in Hebrew, Arabic, and Ladino.
